Last week at the annual meeting of our Online Sales and Operations
(OSO) organization, a group of us (1,211 Googlers from around the
world, to be exact) made an attempt to set a new

href="http://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/default.aspx"
id="qy40" >Guinness World Record for the "largest cake
decorating lesson." This isn't the first time we've

href="http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2007/10/if-you-build-it-they-will-eat-it.html"
id="xz-s" >taken our culinary talents to great heights, but it
is the first time
we've attempted to bake our way to a new record.

The event brought our teams together, united around something we
all love: good food. We decorated a total of 171 cakes, using 800
pounds of butter cream and 500 pounds of fondant along the way. In
addition to this fun foray into the sugar arts, the two-day
conference featured a keynote speech by Al Gore, workshops with
faculty from the Harvard Business School, and several panels on
industry trends, including one on bloggers moderated by href="http://allthingsd.com/about/kara-swisher" > href="http://allthingsd.com/about/kara-swisher" >Kara
Swisher.

We'll report back if (and hopefully when) we hear the news from
Guinness.

We're hosting an Asia Pacific open house for engineers on
Thursday, June 28 from 6-9pm on the href="http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=1600 Amphitheatre Pky, Mountain View, CA 94043&sll=37.0625,-95.677071&sspn=82.939223,105.996094&ie=UTF8&ll=37.423412,-122.086515&spn=0.042466,0.051756&z=14&iwloc=addr&om=1" >
Google campus in Mountain View. Ping Li from Accel Partners
will moderate a panel discussion by the four directors of our
engineering centers in India, Korea, Taiwan, and China. They'll
talk about top tech trends in their respective markets, and
we'll demo products developed in each location. Of course,
there will be plenty of food & drink, and a raffle. This should
be an informative networking event for Bay Area engineers and
entrepreneurs with a technical background.

8-9 pm - Product demo, networking, and a raffle drawing
